112. William ECCLES

From film 0824222, item 6, William Eccles..Sarah Hutchinson..and their children. 12 pages in all.
"Eccles family tradition has it that William and Margaret Miller Eccles with their son Lawrence went to England from Paisley, Scotland to visit William's children by his first wife Jane Palmer, and while there he passed away and was buried there.  Tradition also has it that William Eccles was a textile mill operator both in England and in Scotland, also that the widow Margaret Miller Russell worked for him in the mill. At the time of his death he was a school teacher in Paisley, Scotland."

113. Margaret MILLER

Margaret and son William were baptized members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at Paisley, Renfrew, Scotland on the 5 Feb 1842.
The Ship Metoka from Liverpool, England to New Orleans, Louisiana listed a famale midwife by the name of Margaret Miller Eccles from Scotland with boxes of clothing, 27 Oct 1843 arrival date. She made her way up the Mississippi River by boat to Nauvoo, Illinois to join the membership of the church she had joined in Scotland.  The Prophet Joseph Smith and his brother Hyrum Smith were martyred at Carthage, Illinois the 27 June 1844 while Margaret Miller Eccles was living in this new city.  Eccles Family tradition has it that Margaret Miller Eccles wrote to her children back in Scotland and told them that the Church was true and that she had met the Prophet Joseph Smith and the leading Brethern of the Church.  There seems to be no question that the action of this widowed woman had great influence on her children when they too left Scotland to travel to Utah in 1863, twenty years after their mother had left Scotland for Nauvoo, Illinois.
From the Silliam Eccles..Sarah Hutchinson..and their children; Film #0824222, item 6 FHL number, 12 pages in all.
