Well Known Citizen Passes Away
Finley G. Brooks, a well known citizen passed away Monday morning after a brief illness of one night. A fall while about the yard Sunday evening was the direct cause of his death with hemmorage of the brain. The funeral was held from the late residence at 18th and E. St. Wednesday morning by Rev. Rogers(?). The remains were taken to Alton and laid to rest in Oakwood Cemetery. Finley G. Brooks, son of James T. and Phoebe Brooks was born August 23, 1860, died August 14, 1905, 8 a.m., married to his first wife Viola W. Vaughn January 1880 and his second wife Mollie E. Webster June 1897 in Alton. Deceased leaves one brother, John T., who resides in this city and three grown children, James T., Jessie A., and Bertha P. Oram.
Family living in East Alton, Illinois when she died. After her death he moved his family to Granite City, Illinois. (Fannie Coppedge Autobiography).
